چکیده

I t is not unusual for complicated aneurysms of the ascending aorta to affect left ventricular function. Processes causing or associated with an aneurysm may narrow the coronary artery ostia and produce myocardial ischemia or infarction; the aneurysm may distort the aortic valve ring and produce aortic insufficiency with subsequent left ventricular hypertrophy, dilatation, and failure. However, an unusual manner in which an aortic aneurysm can lead to heart failure is by right ventricular outflow tract obstruction. Here, the clinical picture often resembles that of pulmonic stenosis. This report describes such a complication of an aortic aneurysm and focuses attention on the variety of mechanisms by which acquired right ventricular outflow tract obstruction may be produced

Unusual evolution of acquired infundibular stenosis in patients with ventricular septal defect. Clinical and morphologic observations.

Hemodynamic and cardiac morphologic observations were made on two patients with ventricular septal defect who showed unusual evolution of obstruction to right ventricular outflow. Both patients developed progressive infundibular stenosis, one in the presence of a spontaneously closing ventricular septal defect and the other after operative closure of the defect. Light and electron microscopic e...

Acquired right ventricular outflow tract obstruction in the recipient twin in twin-twin transfusion syndrome.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to determine the prevalence and evolution of acquired right ventricular outflow tract obstruction (RVOTO) in the recipient twin in twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). BACKGROUND Twin-twin transfusion syndrome complicates 4% to 26% of diamniotic monochorionic twin gestations and is associated with high fetal morbidity and mortality. Cardiac dysfunction ...

The aortic translocation (Nikaidoh) procedure: midterm results superior to the Rastelli procedure.

OBJECTIVE Midterm follow-up is analyzed after the aortic translocation (Nikaidoh) procedure, an alternative to the Rastelli procedure for ventriculoarterial discordance, ventricular septal defect, and pulmonary stenosis. METHODS Nineteen patients underwent a Nikaidoh procedure at a median age of 3.3 years (0.9-9.3 years). The native aortic valve was translocated from the right to the left ven...
